Ahmed Motea Assabahi, Death – The NYPD identified the motorcyclist killed in a New Dorp crash Sunday afternoon as 29-year-old Ahmed Motea Assabahi. A resident of the 1800 block of 79th Street in New Utrecht, Brooklyn, Assabahi was driving a 2023 Kawasaki ER650P motorcycle at a high rate of speed when the vehicle fell to the pavement, causing Assabahi to slide into a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck operated by a 21-year-old man making a left turn from New Dorp Lane to 10th Street, police said.
Assabahi struck the driver’s side of the truck and suffered severe head trauma, according to a written statement from the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup remained on the scene, police said, and the NYPD investigation remains ongoing. Following the crash, New Dorp Lane was closed from 9th Street to Edison Street, with NYPD vehicles at each end. A Dodge Ram was observed at the scene with a large dent.
Individuals in the area who spoke to the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com said while they did not see the incident happen, they saw police quickly tape off the area, where the motorcyclist’s body remained under a white blanket.
A separate crash on the Staten Island Expressway late Sunday night left two women dead, the Advance/SILive.com previously reported. The identities of those individuals is pending proper family notification, police said.
