According to a spokesperson from the NIH, the deceased individual was Akwasi Addae, a 45-year-old federal employee and an electrician for the NIH. The unfortunate incident occurred when he accidentally fell into an air-handling intake shaft.
In response to this devastating event, the NIH has taken immediate action by notifying the family of the deceased and extending their heartfelt condolences and support. Additionally, they are providing grief support to both the colleagues of Akwasi Addae at the NIH and the NIH first responders who were involved in the incident.
To ensure the safety of all personnel, the NIH Division of Occupational Health and Safety promptly reported the accident to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
