Anthony Mallory Obituary, Death – Eight to 10 vehicles, including tractor-trailers, were involved in a crash that kept part of Interstate 80 shut down for several hours Wednesday, state police in Mercer County said. Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 5:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 14.
According to the Associated Press, Mercer County Coroner John Libonati identified the man who died as Anthony Eugene Mallory, 34, of Rochester, New York. He was the passenger of a car that was involved in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Six other people involved in the crash received minor injuries, police said. Police said there were other crashes involving drivers trying to avoid the pileup. “There were also multiple non-reportable avoidance collisions on scene as well,” Trooper Bertha Cazy said in a statement.
Eastbound lanes were closed between Exit 4A (I-376 East – New Castle) and Exit 15 (Mercer).
Just after 4 p.m., Cazy reported that the road had reopened over 10 hours after the crash.
