Benedict Johnson Kongolo Obituary, Death – The suspect accused of killing two family members in Regent Park on Tuesday has been identified as 23-year-old Benedict Johnson Kongolo. His arrest came after a daytime shooting that caused fear in a neighborhood that had recently celebrated nearly two years without gun-related deaths. Kongolo faces two charges of first-degree murder and appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday.
The victims of the shooting, Ngoyi Kongolo and Didier Kongolo, were identified in court records. Police revealed that the gunman, who was caught by officers after a foot chase, is related to the victims. Authorities found three individuals with gunshot wounds after being alerted just before 1:30 p.m. One man died at the scene, while another man passed away in the hospital. The woman involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The police did not disclose the relationship between the victims and the alleged gunman. Kongolo appeared in a North York courtroom via video from the Toronto police 51 Division station, wearing white coveralls and displaying unusual behavior. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance next week. Walied Khogali Ali from the Regent Park Neighbourhood Association mentioned that the family was familiar to their association through the Ramadan meals program.
