Brian Corley Death – A fatal accident occurred on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one driver and the injury of another. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the crash involved an SUV and a car. The deceased driver was identified as Brian Corley, a 46-year-old resident of Williston. The collision took place around 1:40 p.m. on U.S. 78/Charleston Highway.
Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the Highway Patrol stated that Corley was driving an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, while a 2013 Ford Escape was traveling west. Near the intersection with Clippership Loop, the Ford SUV crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Chevy. Both drivers were transported to a hospital in Augusta, Georgia, where Corley unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The condition of the SUV driver remains unknown. It was confirmed that there were no other occupants in either vehicle and no additional injuries were reported. The use of seat belts by the drivers is still undetermined. The cause of the SUV veering into oncoming traffic is currently under investigation by the Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the Highway Patrol.
An autopsy will be conducted in Newberry. According to the state Department of Public Safety, as of Sunday, 386 fatalities have occurred on South Carolina roads in 2024. In 2023, there were 1,030 deaths reported in crashes in South Carolina, with 15 deaths occurring in Aiken County alone.
