Brittney Ussin Death – The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified 25-year-old Brittney Ussin as the woman who was killed in a shooting near McDonough Playground earlier this week. Ussin was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Monday after being shot in the 300 block of Ptolemy Street around 7 p.m., as reported by the New Orleans Police Department.
According to Ussin’s uncle, Michael Willis, the shooting was a result of a fight at the playground involving a group of women. Cell phone footage captured by Willis shows two women engaged in a physical altercation, with one of them eventually brandishing a gun. Willis mentioned that his niece was seen in the video using a substance against another woman, emphasizing that the incident was not random and highlighting the role of social media in escalating violence.
Willis expressed concerns about the trend of promoting fights rather than preventing them, pointing out the negative impact of social media on such situations. As of 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, NOPD had not made any arrests or identified suspects in connection with Ussin’s tragic death.
