Calvin Day Death – An individual was fatally shot early in the morning in Southwest Miami-Dade. Footage from the scene displayed a crashed vehicle on a property close to Homestead Avenue and Hibiscus Street. The incident took place at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday following a ShotSpotter alert that alerted authorities to the location.
The victim’s aunt informed 7News that the deceased, a father of six in his twenties, was Calvin Day. She mentioned hearing gunshots after he departed from his sister’s residence. Day then proceeded to drive, eventually losing control of his vehicle. Day was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A witness recounted the event, stating that she heard loud noises that prompted her to investigate. “All I heard was the car screeching,” she said. “It went around the circle on Hibiscus Street, and I heard a bang, so that got me up. I went to the door, and this car had hit a sign, right into the bushes on Hibiscus Street, in the circle, and went up next to the neighbor’s yard.”
It is uncertain if any arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
