Carilynn A. Christie Obituary – A man from Hopewell is facing charges in a traffic accident over the weekend that resulted in the death of one person and the injury of another. The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday on southbound Interstate 295 near the state Route 288 interchange in Chester. According to state police, the driver of a 1994 Honda Civic collided with a 2010 Mercury Milan that had stopped on the right shoulder of the highway.
Tragically, a passenger in the stopped vehicle, identified as 23-year-old Carilynn A. Christie from Petersburg, lost her life in the crash. It is worth noting that she was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the stopped car, 21-year-old Kweli J. Grooms, also from Petersburg, sustained serious injuries. Fortunately, he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Civic, 25-year-old Thomas J. Calix Lisboa from Hopewell, was wearing his seat belt and suffered only minor injuries. Calix Lisboa has been charged by state police with reckless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and driving an uninspected car.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of fatigue playing a role in the crash.
This traffic accident on Interstate 95 was the second one in the area that state police handled over the weekend.
The other incident occurred on northbound Interstate 295 near I-95 in Prince George County. A rear tire on a 2003 Lexus blew out, causing the vehicle to veer into the path of a tractor-trailer. The truck then pushed the vehicle sideways before running off the left side of the road and into the median. The Lexus flipped over multiple times before finally coming to a stop in the middle of the highway.
Despite the severity of the crash, state police have reported that there were no serious injuries
