Charles Mundy, Norma Snodgrass Obituary – The Peoria County Coroner has provided additional information regarding a fatal three-vehicle accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon. The collision took place at the intersection of Route 6 and 29 at approximately 2:30 PM. According to Coroner Jamie Harwood, preliminary investigations and eyewitness testimonies indicate that a van driven by 97-year-old Charles Mundy from Chillicothe was traveling southbound on Route 29 and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection.
This resulted in a chain reaction crash involving a pickup truck and a midsize SUV, both of which were turning onto Route 29. Mundy was transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The two occupants of the small SUV, identified as 72-year-old Victor Snodgrass and his wife, 71-year-old Norma Snodgrass, both from Chillicothe, were also taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
Coroner Harwood stated that all three individuals sustained multiple blunt-force trauma injuries and likely passed away within seconds of the collision. Toxicology results are pending in accordance with Illinois State Statue requirements. State Police have reported that a fourth person involved in the accident was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with State Police leading the inquiry.
