Christella Tan, Death – The aged care worker killed in a car crash in a Sunshine Coast school zone has been remembered as kind and selfless, with a gift for making others feel special. Christella “Stella” Tan was on her way home from working the night shift when her car was allegedly hit by a stolen vehicle on Windsor Rd at Burnside at about 7.20 a.m. on Friday.
The driver’s side door of her vehicle was hit, trapping the 52-year-old in her car for some time before paramedics could begin treating her. She had suffered critical injuries in the crash and died at the scene.
“Stella was my soulmate and true love of my life,” Tan’s widower Bernard Wee said.
“I miss her and love her so much.
“Everyone will always remember her for her smile and acts of kindness.”
A 26-year-old man was arrested on Friday after allegedly fleeing the scene of the crash and was later charged with offences including dangerous driving occasioning death, callous disregard for a victim, armed robbery, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a firearm and carrying a loaded weapon and ammunition.
The 26-year-old allegedly stole a Mercedes in an armed robbery at a Landsborough home about 2am on Friday, Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said, before he allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and crashed into Tan.
After the crash, he allegedly ran to a nearby home and jumped into another car but community members in pursuit of him boxed that vehicle in with their cars.
The man has been denied bail and will appear in Maroochydore Court on September 19.
