Corey Wadsworth Death – Authorities in Newberry, along with state agents, are currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday night. The Newberry Police Department received a call and promptly arrived at Wise Street near Benedict Street at approximately 9:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, Corey Wadsworth, a 35-year-old male, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Tragically, Wadsworth was transported to Newberry County Memorial Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Keeman Aljamek Bates surrendered himself to the authorities. Bates is now facing multiple charges, including murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful carry of a pistol, and possession of a pistol by a prohibited person. Law enforcement officials have assured the public that there is no immediate threat to their safety, as they believe this shooting to be an isolated event.
