Cyrene McKinley, Stevanna Rudolph Obituary, Death – The man and woman killed in Sunday’s early morning single-car wreck in downtown Davenport were identified Thursday. The driver was 30-year-old Cyrene McKinley of Rock Island, while the passenger was 27-year-old Stevanna Rudolph of Davenport.
The wreck happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday. McKinley fled from Davenport officers and later struck a building at 601 W. 2nd St, according to a news release from the police. That release said at approximately 2 a.m. Davenport police saw a Chevy Impala ” … traveling at a high rate of speed driving recklessly in the downtown area.”
The news release said “officers located the vehicle in the area of 7th and Division Streets and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle willingly fled from officers and was not pursued.”
At 2:06 a.m. the Impala was seen driving at a high rate of speed eastbound through the intersection of 2nd and Gaines Streets. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a building located at 601 West 2nd Street.
McKinley was transported by Medic EMS to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Rudolph was pronounced dead at the scene. The building is under extensive renovation and the accident tore away its entire western corner on 2nd Street.
Bill Nielsen, the owner of the building, woke up at 3 a.m. to a phone call from the Davenport Fire Department. He made the drive from Des Moines to inspect the damage. “We are going to call it the Bowstring Lofts and it’s planned to be 19 apartments and two commercial spaces,” Nielsen said. “It’s historic name is the International Harvester Truck Sales and Service and it was built in 1927.
“The portion of the building exposed there was part of the original showroom.”
