Damian Dunning Obituary, Death – The man who lost his life in a shooting incident on the Stevenson Expressway on Sunday night, has been identified. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on the inbound ramp of I-55 to DuSable Lake Shore Drive near McCormick Place.
Authorities have informed Dunning’s family that the shooting may have been a result of road rage, suggesting that he may have been deliberately targeted. According to Dunning’s mother, he had just dropped off his nephew and was on his way back home to Hyde Park when the shooting took place.
Dunning, who was 41 years old, leaves behind a 7-year-old son who was always by his side. He worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, with his route located near Midway Airport.
“He was an exceptional individual, a devoted father, a caring uncle, and he made significant contributions to the community. He did not deserve to meet such a tragic end,” expressed Roy Shannon, Jr., Dunning’s brother. “He was an outstanding postal worker.”
In a distressing coincidence, Dunning’s family is also connected to Loyce Wright, who was fatally shot inside a family dollar store on the West Side last month. “I am filled with anger and fury,” stated Robin Wright, Loyce Wright’s sister. “It feels like there is an intense fire burning within me.”
As of now, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the shooting.
