Danielle Hines Obituary – The Bartlett Yancey Senior High School community is currently grieving the loss of a student and her mother who were tragically shot to death in Caswell County over the weekend. The incident also left two other students injured, including the student’s 17-year-old brother and a fifth grader at Stoney Creek Elementary School.
Dr. Barker, the Caswell County Schools Interim Superintendent, confirmed the details of the shooting, which occurred during a sleepover at the family’s home. The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office reported that there were at least 10 individuals present in the house at the time of the shooting.
In response to the tragic event, the Caswell County School system promptly activated a crisis team, providing additional guidance counselors and staff to support students over the weekend and on Monday. The student’s mother, Danielle Hines, who was a 37-year-old Caswell County Correctional Center officer, was also a victim of the shooting.
The suspect, Anthony Lamont Siler, 37, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about Siler by Caswell County deputies and subsequently initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, Siler took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive behind the incident remains unclear, but authorities do not believe it was a random act of violence.
Danielle Hines had recently started her career with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction in December 2020.
