David Helberg III Death – The coroner has identified David Helberg III, 25, as one of the victims in a fatal crash that occurred Sunday morning in South Pymatuning Township, Mercer County. District Attorney Peter Acker confirmed a second person also died in the incident. This was clarified in an email from the D.A. on Thursday morning.
The crash took place around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Saranac and Buckeye Drives in South Pymatuning Township. A truck carrying three individuals crashed into a utility pole and power lines, resulting in a power outage for nearby homes.
One of the passengers was pronounced dead, while another was hospitalized with severe injuries. Initially, there was a mistaken report about the second death, which was corrected when the Pymatuning Township Police Department informed 21 News that the second victim was on life support at the hospital.
Acker indicated that the truck’s driver, upon release from the hospital, will be charged with homicide by vehicle DUI. He described the crash as one of the worst he has encountered, attributing it to a combination of weather conditions, high speeds, and alcohol.
The incident is under investigation by the South Pymatuning Township Police and State Police.
