David Walton Obituary – A 59-year-old man from Phillipsburg lost his life on Wednesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a box truck on Route 22 in Palmer Township, according to Police Chief Wayne Smith. The deceased has been identified as David Walton, a resident of Railroad Avenue. The cause and manner of his death will be determined after an autopsy conducted by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office over the weekend.
The accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. when Walton was traveling east on Route 22 on his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Smith informed lehighvalleylive.com that Walton was riding at a high speed and encountered eastbound traffic that was either stopped or slowing down due to congestion caused by a previous accident investigation near the border of Palmer-Lower Nazareth townships. As a result, Walton lost control of his motorcycle and skidded, eventually colliding with a box truck and coming to a stop underneath another car.
Walton sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson campus. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead later that day. No other injuries were reported in the collision. The Palmer Township Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team, along with the Palmer Municipal Fire Department, Suburban Emergency Medical Services, and the Northampton County Coroner’s Office, responded to the scene and conducted an extensive investigation.
Initially, Route 22 east was closed from Route 33 to 13th Street. Subsequently, the road was shut down from 25th Street to 13th Street until the investigation was concluded. Route 22 east was finally reopened at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, as confirmed by the police.
