Denson-Simmons Obituary – A 65-year-old woman who died following a multi-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Bear has been identified by Delaware State Police as Darlene Denson-Simmons. Two others were injured in the crash that occurred about 4:15 p.m. Sunday. Denson-Simmons, of Bear, was a passenger in a 2017 Toyota RAV-4 that was westbound on Pulaski Highway (Route 40) approaching the intersection with Bear Christiana Road (Route 7).
As the RAV-4 driver crossed the intersection, police said a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer turned left into the RAV-4’s path. The RAV-4 hit the Trailblazer and was then rear-ended by a 2011 Nissan Altima that was driving behind the RAV-4, police said. Both the RAV-4 and Altima had a green light, but the Trailblazer turned left on a red arrow, police said.
Both people in the RAV-4 were taken to the hospital, where Denson-Simmons later died. Police said the 60-year-old driver was treated for not life-threatening injuries. The 61-year-old Trailblazer-driver was taken to the hospital for serious injuries, according to police. No one in the Altima was injured.
