Dexter Reed Death, CHICAGO – The man who was killed in a shootout with Chicago police, resulting in an officer being wounded, has been identified as Dexter Reed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The incident occurred when officers pulled over a car on the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street just after 6 p.m. An exchange of gunfire took place while the officers were in the car. Reed was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later passed away.
His family is devastated by his death and is seeking answers from COPA regarding the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. Porscha Banks, Reed’s sister, expressed her confusion and grief, questioning why her brother had to die in such a manner. She described Reed as a beloved individual who meant everything to their family. Despite the unanswered questions surrounding his death, Banks is left to cope with the profound loss of her brother.
The officers involved in the incident are currently on administrative leave as the investigation unfolds, with bodycam footage and the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department’s investigative response team and COPA.
