Estella Gomez Obituary – The search for the driver who struck two elderly women in University Park continues as the police intensify their efforts. The family and loved ones of the woman who tragically lost her life in the hit-and-run gathered at the location of the incident to mourn her passing. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the hit-and-run occurred at 1:18 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue in the 2600 block. The driver, who was backing out of a private driveway, collided with the two women and immediately fled the scene, heading eastbound on 25th Street.
While the LAPD identified the deceased woman as an 80-year-old, her relatives confirmed her true age as 74-year-old Estella Gomez. The surviving woman, identified by the mourners as Estella’s 82-year-old cousin Maria Ortiz, is currently hospitalized.
Miguel Gomez, Estella’s son, shared his account of the incident, stating, “My mom bravely pushed the other lady away to protect her, but unfortunately, she still got injured. The other lady is now in the hospital, and she is my mom’s cousin.” the site where Estella tragically lost her life, candles have been placed as a tribute to the beloved grandmother she was remembered as.
The LAPD is actively searching for the driver responsible for this hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of one elderly woman and left another injured.
