Everett Shockley Death – The man who was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Everett Shockley, 42, by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office. Shockley was fatally shot by the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly holding a developmentally disabled woman at gunpoint in her home outside of Aurora. The coroner’s office released the victim’s identity on Friday after conducting an autopsy and notifying the next of kin.
Before this incident, Shockley had been involved in 17 court cases in Colorado, dating back to 1997, which included charges of menacing, assault, and domestic violence, as indicated by court records. The standoff that occurred before the shooting began when the sheriff’s office received a report of a man holding a woman at gunpoint in her home. After multiple attempts to peacefully resolve the situation, law enforcement entered the bedroom where Shockley and the victim were barricaded. Shockley was holding the developmentally disabled woman at gunpoint, resulting in severe facial injuries for her.
She was subsequently hospitalized for treatment. Deputies then shot Shockley, leading to his death inside the home. As per protocol, the involved deputies were placed on administrative leave while the 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team investigates the incident. It has been determined that Shockley did not reside in the home, and the nature of his connection to the victim has not been disclosed. Shockley’s criminal history includes cases of menacing, domestic violence, and drug offenses in Park County during the early 2000s.
He also faced an assault case in Denver in 2012, along with multiple other cases across Douglas, Arapahoe, Adams, and Jefferson County, according to court records. Additionally, Shockley was reported to have attended Arapahoe Community College in 2019, as mentioned in an article from the college’s newspaper, The Arapahoe Pinnacle.
