Foueti Afeaki Obituary, Death – Taylorsville police reported on Monday that a man fatally shot by officers in response to a domestic violence report had aimed a gun at them. Foueti Afeaki, 33, was inside a garage at 3954 W. 5820 South around 11 a.m. on Sunday when officers arrived regarding the domestic violence incident.
During the interaction, Afeaki brandished a handgun, prompting three Taylorsville officers to discharge their firearms. Afeaki sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away, as stated in the police statement on Monday.
Following protocol, the three officers involved have been put on standard paid administrative leave while an investigation, managed by Unified police, delves into the Officer-Involved Critical Incident.
Court records revealed that Afeaki had an outstanding warrant for his arrest at the time of the shooting, stemming from a failure to appear in Salt Lake City Justice Court in relation to a domestic violence citation issued the previous summer.
