Frank Whitt Obituary, Death – A tragic incident has left the community in mourning as a volunteer firefighter lost his life in a crash on Tuesday evening in Elliott County, Kentucky. The deceased has been identified as Frank Whitt, a 72-year-old individual, by the coroner. Before his involvement with the Route 504 Volunteer Fire Department, Whitt had retired from his position as a heavy machine operator and was also engaged in farming.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the accident occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday when Whitt was driving a fire truck south on Route 504. Unfortunately, he veered off the road, crashed through a guardrail, and went over an embankment. Tragically, an EMT had already passed away earlier that day due to an unrelated health issue, and Whitt was en route to assist in escorting them to the funeral home.
Johnny Smith, who served alongside Whitt in the fire department, expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “It knocks you for a loop. You don’t get over it.”
Samantha Whitt, who married into the family, spoke highly of Frank’s unwavering dedication to helping others in any way he could. She described him as a God-fearing Christian man who was always available whenever the community needed assistance. She further added that he was beloved by everyone who knew him and his absence will be deeply felt. She concluded by stating, “This has truly been a tragedy for our county.”
The coroner has confirmed that the victim’s body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, as per standard protocol for a line-of-duty death.
