Gilbert Bunch Jr Obituary, Death – The Louisiana State Police have confirmed that the individual who was reported missing in Assumption Parish on March 2 has been discovered deceased. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office promptly responded to a call regarding a deceased body in the Bayou Lafourche, specifically in the vicinity of the 1800 block of LA Hwy. 308.
Through their diligent efforts, LSP troopers were able to positively identify the deceased as Gilbert Bunch Jr., aged 64. He was found approximately 6 miles south of the location where the accident occurred.
According to investigators, Bunch was traveling east on LA Hwy 398 when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of LA Hwy. 1. As a result, his vehicle crossed LA Hwy. 1 and veered off the road, ultimately submerging into the Bayou Lafourche.
Fortunately, the passenger in the vehicle managed to exit and swim towards the nearby bank. However, Bunch was last seen in the water near the submerged car before disappearing from sight.
Despite extensive efforts, law enforcement authorities, including the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafourche Parish Volunteer Fire Department District 1, and dedicated volunteers equipped with specialized gear, have been unable to locate Bunch in their search of Bayou Lafourche since the accident.
It is important to note that this remains an ongoing investigation, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
