Henry Jernigan Death – The deceased individual found in the back of an abandoned U-Haul truck in Mid-City has been identified as Henry Jernigan, a previously convicted felon who died from a gunshot wound to the head. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed this information on Friday.
The discovery was made on Thursday morning in the residential area of Redondo Boulevard, near the 10 Freeway. Aerial footage showed the body wrapped in a teal-colored tarp or plastic sheet in the cargo area of the truck.
Authorities have revealed that Jernigan had served two separate prison sentences within the past eight years. He was initially admitted to prison from L.A. County on October 17, 2016, for a two-year term due to possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm. After receiving pre-sentence credits, he was discharged to community supervision on May 11, 2017.
Subsequently, on February 7, 2020, Jernigan was sent to prison from Santa Barbara County for a term of seven years and eight months. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, with an enhancement for being armed with a firearm. Following his release on parole supervision on January 27, 2021, he successfully completed his parole term and was discharged on January 27, 2022.
The Santa Barbara County case was related to the robbery of a marijuana cultivation facility in Carpinteria on August 29, 2018. Jernigan and another individual, Tyrone Taylor of Lancaster, were identified as the robbery suspects by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
