Jacob Pothier, a senior who was only 18 years old, tragically lost his life in a fatal single-car crash in Dartmouth on Friday night. GNBVT Superintendent-Director Michael Watson expressed his deepest condolences to the family and assured that mental health and crisis intervention teams would be available to provide support to the students during this challenging period.
Michael Watson stated, “The death of someone so young, regardless of the circumstances, is a heartbreaking tragedy. It serves as a stark reminder of a life that will never be fully realized. It is a devastating loss for his parents, siblings, and friends.” In a statement, GNBVT Football Coach Justin Cruz emphasized that Pothier was a beloved member of the football program. Cruz stressed the importance of unity and support within the team during such difficult times. He described Pothier not only as a teammate but also as a friend and brother to many.
Cruz assured his players that he and the other coaches were available to help them navigate through this challenging period. He added, “Jacob’s spirit will always remain in our hearts, and we will honor his legacy both on and off the field.” Pothier was listed as a junior wide receiver on the team’s 2022 roster. To assist with the memorialization and burial expenses, Pothier’s maternal aunt, Jennifer Cullen, has set up a GoFundMe page. Cullen expressed her gratitude for the impact Jacob had on numerous people, both in ways they were aware of and in ways they never knew. The fundraiser has already raised over $34,000 as of Monday morning.
