Jake Robinson, Carter Rhoad Death – The Mexican authorities have confirmed that the American and two Australian tourists who went missing in northern Mexico last week have been found dead. The bodies of Callum and Jake Robinson, Australian brothers aged 33 and 30 respectively, along with American Carter Rhoad, 30, were discovered at the bottom of a well in Baja California state. The confirmation was made after the parents of the victims were able to identify them without the need for genetic tests.
State Attorney General Elena Andrade assured the parents and diplomatic officials that there is a strong commitment to continue investigating these tragic events until those responsible are held accountable under the law. The bodies were found in an advanced state of decomposition, and it has been reported that all three had suffered gunshot wounds to the head.
Three individuals have been arrested so far, and a burnt-out vehicle believed to have been used by the surfers was also found in the vicinity. The initial hypothesis of the Mexican authorities is that the arrested individuals attempted to carjack the tourists, and when they resisted, they were shot and their bodies were disposed of in the well. The surfers were last seen on April 27 and were reported missing a few days later, prompting a multi-day search operation with assistance from the U.S.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). While the Ensenada area is considered relatively safe, Baja California remains one of Mexico’s most violent states, leading the U.S. State Department to advise Americans to reconsider travel to the region due to crime and kidnapping concerns.
