Jakeria Rashaad May Death – The fatal shooting that occurred in Tuscaloosa’s Holt community early Sunday morning resulted in the tragic death of a man in his own residence, in front of his 10-year-old daughter, as stated by the police in an update provided later in the evening. Captain Jack Kennedy, who leads the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, reported that authorities received a call at approximately 1:45 regarding a shooting incident in the 4600 Block of Virginia Drive in Holt, a neighborhood situated in Tuscaloosa. Kennedy mentioned that the victim, identified as 35-year-old Jakeria Rashaad May, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during a confrontation at his home. Despite being rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation conducted by the VCU, 30-year-old Terrelle Devonte Williams was identified as a suspect after witnesses were interviewed. Williams was apprehended by local law enforcement and federal US Marshals later that same day. Captain Kennedy confirmed that Williams faces charges of capital murder and is currently being held in custody without the option of bond. The severity of the charge means that Williams will remain incarcerated until the legal proceedings are concluded, and if found guilty, he could potentially receive a life sentence or even the death penalty.
Captain Kennedy explained that the decision to elevate the charge to capital murder was due to the distressing circumstance of the victim being fatally shot in the presence of his young daughter. This incident marks the sixth homicide investigated by the VCU in 2024.
