Jamieson Ritter Obituary – The Cleveland police officer who was fatally shot while on duty early Thursday morning has been identified as 27-year-old Jamieson Ritter. Ritter, who had been with the department for four years and was assigned to the Third District, graduated from Syracuse University in 2019 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army National Guard.
He served with the 134th Field Artillery Regiment as a member of the Ohio Army National Guard. After being deployed to Syria in 2022, Ritter returned to Cleveland in 2023 to continue his service. A native of Webster, New York, Ritter graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School in 2015. The Cleveland Division of Police described him as someone who had a deep desire to serve his country and community from a young age.
Police Chief Annie Todd expressed sadness over the loss, emphasizing the sacrifice Ritter made and the importance of honoring his memory and compassion. Officer Ritter was recognized as officer of the month in May for his heroic actions in various situations, including responding to a shooting incident where he and another officer administered life-saving measures to a critically injured individual.
