Jason Musnug Death, SALT LAKE CITY — Troopers have identified the 46-year-old man who was driving the wrong way and died after crashing into a bus carrying Army Reserve cadets on I-15 on Thursday morning. The driver has been named as Jason Musnug from Herriman. At around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, Musnug was driving a Chevy Silverado north in the southbound lanes of I-15 when he collided with a bus in the HOV lane near 400 North, as reported by Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden.
The bus was en route from Utah State University to Camp Williams for field training exercises when the accident occurred, resulting in injuries to the bus driver and one of the 22 cadets on board. The bus driver, an active duty service member, underwent wrist surgery at a local hospital, while the cadet received staples for a head wound, according to UHP Cpl. Luis Silva. Prior to the collision, emergency dispatchers received at least one call reporting the wrong-way driver, Silva added.
Southbound I-15 was shut down at North Temple until approximately 10:30 a.m., with traffic being redirected at 600 North during the morning rush hour.
