Jay Groth Obituary, Death – Last night, a bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle in Palm Desert tragically passed away from his injuries at a hospital, as confirmed by authorities on Wednesday. Upon receiving a report of a severe traffic collision at Cook Street and Country Club Drive, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station promptly arrived at the scene at 7:31 p.m. on Tuesday. Sergeant Don Olson from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department provided this information.
At the location, they discovered an unresponsive bicyclist, later identified as 62-year-old Jay Groth from Indio, lying on the road with significant injuries, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
In a statement, Sgt. Olson wrote, “The male bicyclist was taken to a local hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.” He further mentioned that the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained present and cooperated fully during the investigation.
Tragically, Groth was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m. on Tuesday at Desert Regional Medical Center.
To conduct a thorough investigation into the collision, the Palm Desert Traffic Team temporarily closed the intersection, as stated by Sgt. Olson.
