Jayden Perkins Death, CHICAGO — Eleven-year-old Jayden Perkins from Chicago tragically lost his life while trying to protect his pregnant mother. The 33-year-old mother sustained multiple stab wounds during the attack, but both she and her unborn child are expected to recover. The alleged perpetrator, Crosetti Brand, a 37-year-old man, had been released on parole just one day prior to the incident. The attack took place in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue in Edgewater last week.
Reports indicate that Jayden’s mother had an order of protection against Brand, with whom she had a past relationship 15 years ago. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Jayden with a chest injury, as he bravely tried to shield his mother from harm. Video footage captured Brand fleeing the scene with the weapon used in the attack. Chief of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti confirmed his arrest a few hours later.
Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling condemned the incident, stating that it was a tragedy that should never have occurred. He expressed sympathy for the mother, who not only suffered a brutal attack but also the loss of her son. Brand had a history of criminal activity, having been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a home invasion. He was on parole and electronic monitoring at the time of the attack, following a previous parole violation that resulted in his return to prison in February.
During Brand’s court appearance, family members of the victims attempted to confront him, leading to a scuffle with deputies and subsequent arrests. Brand faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, home invasion, armed robbery, and aggravated domestic battery.
