Jeremiah Gaver Obituary – The officer-involved shooting that occurred early Wednesday is currently under investigation by the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force. The deceased suspect has been identified as Jeremiah Gaver, a 37-year-old individual.
During the incident, Gaver stabbed two K9 dogs, causing severe injuries to them. Fortunately, no officers were harmed, but the injured dogs are currently receiving emergency medical care. According to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday in a neighborhood near Cole and Amity Roads in South Boise.
A deputy from the Sheriff’s Office noticed a man, later identified as Jeremiah Gaver, who was covered in a tarp and peering into the backyards of homes on South Maverick Way. Despite repeated warnings and requests to identify himself and remove his hand from under the tarp, Gaver did not comply.
In response, the Sheriff’s Office informed Gaver that they would use a less-lethal bean bag rifle and a K9 if he continued to refuse compliance. At 1:00 a.m., a deputy fired the bean bag round, but it did not subdue Gaver.
According to a press release from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, when the K9 dog caught up to Gaver, he stabbed the dog and then fled towards an open field to the east. A group of deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Boise Police Department pursued Gaver, who was still armed with a knife. They repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon.
The pursuit ended at a 24-hour gas station located at the intersection of Cole and Amity, where a second confrontation occurred. Both the Sheriff’s Office and the Boise Police used Tasers on Gaver, and the Boise Police also deployed a K9. Unfortunately, Gaver continued to attack the dog, prompting four deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and one officer from the Boise Police Department to fire their weapons at him.
Once the scene was secure, paramedics provided medical treatment to Gaver. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is actively investigating the case.
