Joan Milsop Obituary – Authorities have identified the Shrewsbury woman who tragically lost her life in a crash on Thursday afternoon. The victim, Joan Milsop, 84, was a passenger in a Hyundai Sonata that failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Meadow Road. This particular spot has a history of accidents.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office released Milsop’s identity on Tuesday. At around 1 p.m. on Thursday, Milsop was in the front passenger seat of the Sonata when the driver disregarded the stop sign and collided with a Jeep Compass traveling on Pleasant Street.
As a result of the collision, the Sonata veered off the road, while the Compass struck a utility pole, according to Spencer police Lt. Norman Hodgerney. Fortunately, the woman driving the Compass did not sustain any injuries.
Milsop’s husband, who was driving the Sonata, was taken to the hospital for his injuries, as confirmed by Lt. Hodgerney.
The crash is currently being investigated, and no charges have been filed yet. To avoid any potential conflicts of interest, a special prosecutor named Sean Murray will handle the case on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office.
