John Phipps Death – Police in Prince George’s County have identified the individual who was shot and killed during a car meet-up in the early hours of Sunday morning. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old John Phipps from Waldorf. The incident took place at a shopping center parking lot on Marlboro Pike around 1:45 a.m. on May 19.
Phipps was discovered inside a vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Another man sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the shooting. Additionally, a woman was injured during the incident, but details surrounding her injuries remain unclear. Law enforcement officials have expressed concerns over the rise in these car meetups in the DMV area.
Prince George’s County Police Chief Malik Aziz emphasized the need for increased vigilance and resources to address these gatherings. Recently, Maryland legislators passed House Bill 601, which aims to curb reckless driving behaviors by increasing penalties and points on licenses for offenders.
