Jonathan Adam Lecompte Obituary, Death – According to the Lumberton Police Department, a man attempting to thwart a carjacking was fatally struck by the carjacker. The incident unfolded on Thursday on West 5th Street in Lumberton, prompting police intervention.
En route to the scene, authorities were informed that the suspect had been engaged in a hit-and-run at a gas station on the same street and was in the process of attempting another carjacking. Good Samaritans intervened to thwart the carjacking, but the suspect managed to steal one of their vehicles.
During the vehicle theft, the suspect allegedly deliberately struck one of the Good Samaritans, who later succumbed to their injuries. The deceased, identified as 38-year-old Jonathan Adam Lecompte from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was rushed to the hospital.
Police pursued the suspect until he crashed the stolen vehicle. The perpetrator, identified as 28-year-old Ricky Alex Driggers of Lumberton, was apprehended.
Driggers faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle, and felony fleeing to elude.
