Jorge Cardona, Angelina Cardona Obituary – An inquiry is currently underway following the discovery of a deceased husband, wife, and their daughter inside a residence in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon. According to Acting Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy, firefighters initially responded to a medical emergency call at the residence on Ashburner Street around 1 p.m. Upon arrival, they encountered a Philadelphia police officer who was accompanying a woman in need of transportation to the hospital.
While the medical team transported the woman to the hospital, authorities received another request for a wellness check at the same residence. Commissioner Murphy explained that the woman, who was a teacher at a local school, had not reported to work for the past three days, prompting the school to contact the police. Additionally, the woman’s mother, identified as 47-year-old Maricel Martinez by family members, had also contacted the police to request a wellness check.
Firefighters returned to the residence and discovered Martinez, her husband Jorge Cardona (56), and their daughter Angelina Cardona (12) unresponsive inside the house.
All three individuals were pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m. While an official cause of death has not been released, authorities suspect carbon monoxide poisoning as the likely cause.
