Jorge De La Torre Death – Fort Lauderdale Police have confirmed the identity of the construction worker who tragically lost his life after a crane section fell onto the Southeast 3rd Avenue bridge in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The victim has been named as 27-year-old Jorge De La Torre. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on the bridge over the New River, close to Southeast 4th Street. Fire officials in Fort Lauderdale revealed that the accident took place while a construction crew was in the process of extending the crane’s height.
Unfortunately, a platform fell from the building, along with parts of the crane, causing De La Torre to sustain fatal injuries. The crane itself remained attached to the building, while the section that fell landed on the bridge, damaging multiple vehicles. Two individuals from the damaged vehicles were taken to the hospital, one in stable condition and the other with minor injuries. Another person was treated at the scene for their injuries.
Chopper 6 footage captured the aftermath, showing the crushed vehicle and another car that was damaged. Witnesses described the terrifying moment when the crane fell, with one resident mentioning the unsettling screams from the construction workers. Another witness, Tony Perez, shared his experience of coming home from work during the tragic incident.
