Joseph Burley Edwards Death, A man who was 48 years old was fatally shot on Sunday night after an argument in Park Layne. The victim has been identified as Joseph Burley Edwards, a resident of New Carlisle. The shooting suspect, Glen James Sexton, who is 24 years old and also from New Carlisle, has been charged with murder and is currently in custody at the Clark County Jail.
The incident occurred at around 9:20 p.m. on Slayton Drive, and emergency crews were called to the scene. Bystanders were assisting Edwards, who was found on the ground in front of a house, while Sexton was sitting in a black Cadillac XTS in the driveway with his hands raised. Edwards was transported to a local hospital by the Bethel Twp. Fire Department EMS, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries about an hour later. According to the investigation, Sexton and his female passenger had come to meet Edwards at the Slayton address.
However, Edwards initially left the vehicle but then returned to the residence, leading to a heated confrontation between the two men. During the altercation, Sexton retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and brandished it. Edwards struck Sexton in the face, prompting Sexton to fire the weapon and fatally wound Edwards. Detectives from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division also responded to the scene to assist with collecting evidence.
