Kenneth Battersby Obituary – Police and social services are currently conducting investigations into the deaths of a father and his two-year-old son at a residence in Lincolnshire. The deceased individuals have been identified as Kenneth Battersby, 60, and his son Bronson. The authorities discovered their bodies at a house on Prince Alfred Avenue in Skegness, Lincolnshire, on January 9th. According to initial findings, it is believed that Mr. Battersby passed away due to a heart attack, while Bronson’s cause of death is suspected to be starvation and dehydration following his father’s demise. Lincolnshire Police have stated that they do not consider the deaths to be suspicious after conducting their investigation.
A spokesperson for the police force mentioned that a comprehensive review will be conducted to analyze the actions of the organizations involved. However, it is currently deemed inappropriate to provide further comments on the matter. As a result of a death or serious injury following police involvement, the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) by standard procedures.
Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed that Bronson was known to children’s services, and a social worker had been in contact with Mr. Battersby on December 27th to arrange a visit on January 2nd. Unfortunately, when the social worker arrived for the scheduled visit, there was no response. Consequently, inquiries were made regarding Bronson’s whereabouts, leading to the involvement of the police. Despite a follow-up visit on January 4th, which also yielded no response, the police were once again contacted. Finally, on January 9th, the social worker gained access to the residence with the assistance of the landlord, where the bodies of Kenneth and Bronson were discovered.
The council has initiated a “rapid review” of the case, which is standard procedure following an incident of this nature. The social worker involved has not been suspended but has taken time off due to the “traumatic” nature of the experience. Heather Sandy, the executive director for children’s services at Lincolnshire County Council, expressed condolences to the family during this tragic time. She also mentioned that a review of the case is currently underway in collaboration with partner agencies.
