Laken Riley Cause of Death – The coroner has released the initial cause of death for the nursing student who was killed on the University of Georgia campus. Laken Riley, 22, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, as determined by the Athens-Clarke County Coroner’s Office and Morgue.
The official autopsy report is expected to be released in several weeks. Riley’s body was discovered on February 22 in a wooded area behind Lake Herrick, showing visible injuries. The UGA police suspect foul play in her death. Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, has been charged with malice and felony murder, along with other charges related to Riley’s death.
It has been stated that Riley and Ibarra were not acquainted, and authorities believe the killing was an opportunistic crime. Riley, who was from Woodstock, will have her funeral on March 1 at Woodstock City Church, with visitation before the service.
