Lanetta Mechelle Palacios Death – Over the weekend, three individuals tragically lost their lives in Jefferson County. Among the victims were Lanetta Mechelle Palacios, 32, and Patrick Jamal Johnson, 52, who have been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The third victim, who was killed in Midfield, has not yet been identified.
Palacios was fatally attacked early Sunday at her residence in the Timber Leaf Cove community in the McCalla area. The Chief Deputy Coroner, Bill Yates, stated that she suffered blunt force injuries during a domestic assault and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:31 a.m.
Peter Pablo Palacios, 36, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Sunday morning at 10:01 a.m. Jail records indicate that the victim was killed in the presence of at least one child under the age of 14.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the case. Attempts to obtain comments from sheriff’s officials regarding the incident were unsuccessful. Johnson was shot on Friday at 5:45 p.m. in Adamsville. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:02 p.m. The Adamsville police Chief, Chris Robinson, mentioned that more information will be released later.
Earl Duane Scott, 57, has been charged with murder in Johnson’s death and is currently held without bond in the county jail. He was booked into the jail on Sunday at 5:03 p.m.
In another incident, a man was killed in Midfield early Saturday. Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired and discovered the victim with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim, an adult Black male, has not yet been identified.
These three slayings bring the total number of homicides in Jefferson County to 48.
