Lyne McGregor Obituary – Today, we gather with heavy hearts to pay tribute to one of our own, Lyne McGregor, who dedicated her life and service to our organization. In the early years, Lyne held various committee positions before taking a short break from the family history group. Upon her return in 2009, she took on the role of Newsletter Editor and went on to serve as our Vice President, Membership Officer, Correspondence Secretary, and Publicity Officer.
She was also an invaluable member of the Cemetery Tours Group and the current coordinator for the October cemetery walk. Additionally, Lyne represented us as one of the South Eastern Historical Association reps for many years and generously volunteered in the research room and at sausage sizzles. All of this while balancing the responsibilities of a full-time job and being a proud mother, navigating the challenges and joys of life.
In February 2023, Lyne shared with us that she had been diagnosed with cancer, but she remained optimistic, drawing strength from her uncle’s own battle with the disease. She continued to dedicate herself to our cause, particularly focusing on the Dandenong Cemetery Walk, even amidst various medical procedures. Nothing could deter her from leading the walk in October 2023.
By March 2024, Lyne was still actively involved, sending out publicity notices and working on her research for this year’s cemetery walk at Emerald. However, her health took a turn for the worse in April, leading her back to the hospital. Throughout it all, her unwavering attitude remained, always believing that she would overcome any obstacles. We all held onto hope for her recovery. Sadly, it was not meant to be, and on Anzac Day 2024, Lyne peacefully passed away.
