Martin Troyer Death – A fatal accident occurred on Thursday morning on the Indiana Toll Road in LaGrange County, resulting in the death of a tow truck driver. According to the Indiana State Police, the incident took place at mile marker 114.2 around 9:40 a.m. while crews were cleaning up a diesel spill and removing a crashed semi from the center median.
The driver of a 2021 white Dodge Ram towing an enclosed trailer lost control and veered through the median, colliding with the tow truck parked on the inside shoulder of the westbound lanes. The Dodge then struck both the tow truck driver and the semi involved in the earlier crash. Sadly, the tow truck driver, identified as 63-year-old Martin Troyer from Sturgis, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fortunately, a worker from the remediation company involved in the diesel spill cleanup sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The police attributed the accident to the slick road conditions caused by the snow and believe that the 31-year-old driver of the Dodge, a resident of New York, was traveling at an excessive speed given the weather conditions.
The Indiana State Police are conducting the investigation and will provide all relevant information to the LaGrange County Prosecutor’s Office for further review. Although the crash initially resulted in the restriction of the left lane of westbound traffic, it was reopened at approximately 1:45 p.m.
