Michael Powers Death – The individual who lost their life in a two-vehicle collision at Exit 41 of Interstate 75 on Wednesday evening has been identified by the London Police Department (LPD). The crash took place on the southbound get-off ramp of I-75 at approximately 5:06 p.m., as reported by LPD. The deceased has been identified as Michael Powers, an 88-year-old resident of Macomb, MI. Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to investigators, the collision occurred when a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Powers, struck the rear of a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia semi truck. The semi truck, driven by Irabaruta Ezechiel, a 37-year-old resident of Erie, PA, was stopped in traffic on the southbound get-off ramp of exit 41.
Shirley Powers, an 86-year-old passenger in the Equinox and a resident of Macomb, MI, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
The London Police received assistance from various agencies, including the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police CVE, London Fire Department, London-Laurel Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel, Air Evac, and Allen’s Towing.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and being conducted by members of the London-Laurel County Accident Reconstruction team, namely Lt. Ryan Jackson and Deputy Brad Mink.
