Nathaniel James Jenkins Obituary – A house fire that occurred on Pleasant Street in Binghamton in mid-January has been determined by investigators to have resulted in the death of a Binghamton man due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The victim has been identified as Nathaniel James Jenkins, a 39-year-old resident of Binghamton, according to Captain Cory Minor of the Binghamton Police Department.
Jenkins, who was originally from Norwich, leaves behind two sons and was known for his athletic achievements during his time in high school, as mentioned in his obituary. The fire broke out at approximately 8:15 a.m. on January 15th at a residence located at 2 Pleasant St., as reported by the Binghamton Fire Department. Firefighters, while battling the flames, tragically discovered Jenkins’ body inside the house, as confirmed by Captain Minor.
Authorities suspect that the house was unoccupied and that Jenkins and others may have been staying there without permission. The structure was heavily boarded up and had hoarding conditions, which posed challenges for the firefighters in extinguishing the fire, according to fire officials. Although the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, Captain Minor stated that it is believed to have been accidental, with no indications of any suspicious activity.
