Omar Gallegos Death – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a suspected DUI crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Easter Sunday night. The incident took place at approximately 8:43 p.m. on S. Pecos Road, located south of E. Maule Avenue, as stated by the police.
Based on the evidence found at the scene and statements from witnesses, it has been determined that a 2009 Nissan Versa was traveling northbound on Pecos Road, south of E. Maule Avenue, while a pedestrian was crossing S. Pecos Road outside of a designated crosswalk. According to the authorities, the 35-year-old male pedestrian entered the path of the Nissan and was subsequently struck by the vehicle.
Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by the authorities. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 28-year-old Omar Gallegos by the police, remained at the scene and exhibited signs of impairment. Gallegos has since been taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges related to driving under the influence.
Regrettably, this incident marks the 46th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in the year 2024.
