Peter Leist Death – Authorities have identified the individual who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle collision with a bus last Friday afternoon as Peter Leist, a 62-year-old resident of Denville, New Jersey. The incident occurred at 3444 Route 301 in Carmel, where Leist’s motorcycle collided with a small bus in front of a group home.
The accident prompted a flurry of nine-one-one calls, prompting emergency responders to swiftly converge on the crash site, situated approximately half a mile west of the Gipsy Trail Road intersection. Despite the concerted efforts of personnel from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Carmel and Kent Police, as well as members of the Carmel and Kent Fire Departments, Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Empress Paramedics, and the Putnam Bureau of Emergency Services, Leist was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
In response to the incident, authorities from Putnam County solicited assistance from the New York State Police, who dispatched an accident reconstruction team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
According to Putnam County Undersheriff Thomas Lindert, Leist’s motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 301, west of Gipsy Trail Road. Lindert noted that the motorcycle had overtaken several vehicles by crossing over double yellow lines before colliding head-on with the bus, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The bus was being operated by Lauren Hoffman of Carmel.
Lindert also disclosed details of another serious motorcycle accident that occurred on the same Friday evening, this time along Route 22 near Sodom Road in Southeast. According to police reports, a vehicle driven by 52-year-old Christine Bueti of Katonah was making a left turn out of a restaurant driveway to head southbound when it was struck by a northbound motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Marvin Espanaventura of Brewster.
Following the collision, Espanaventura was transported to Danbury Hospital in serious condition.
