Richard Dean Bailey Obituary – The Charleston County Coroner on Monday identified the 31-year-old motorcyclist who died while fleeing from deputies over the weekend. Richard Dean Bailey, a 31-year-old from Ravenel, died on the scene.
The coroner’s office marked his time of death as 8:21 p.m., due to blunt force injuries sustained in a motor vehicle vs motorcycle collision. The incident occurred on Highway 78 near Ingleside Boulevard at approximately 8:21 p.m., according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP). The motorcyclist was traveling east in a 2021 BMW motorcycle.
According to the CCSO, a deputy attempted to pull the motorcyclist over for a traffic violation. The motorcyclist failed to stop, initiating the pursuit.
Shortly after the pursuit began, according to law enforcement, the motorcyclist disregarded a traffic signal and struck a 2021 Buick Enclave SUV head-on.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
