How Did Ronald Powell Die?
Ronald Powell was a talented and promising football player who had a bright future ahead of him. He was a five-star recruit out of high school and the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2010 class. He played for the Florida Gators from 2010 to 2013, where he recorded 84 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks in 36 games. He was also a team captain and a leader on and off the field.
Powell’s career was hampered by injuries, however. He tore his ACL twice in 2012, forcing him to miss the entire season. He bounced back in 2013 and declared for the NFL draft, where he was selected by the Saints in the fifth round. He spent two seasons with the Saints, appearing in 14 games and registering six tackles. He was released by the Saints in 2016 and signed with the Seattle Seahawks, but he was cut before the season started. He then played for the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football in 2019, but the league folded before the season ended.
