Salvador Perez-Garcia Death – The man responsible for ramming two police vehicles with his truck and then attacking officers with a chain and metal object was fatally shot by police outside of an Iowa casino, according to state authorities. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has identified the deceased man as 55-year-old Salvador Perez-Garcia from Sioux City, Iowa. The names of the officers involved have not been released, and both are currently on leave while the state agency conducts an investigation.
According to the DCI, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Monday when a white truck drove at a patrol vehicle parked inside the Hard Rock Casino parking garage in Sioux City. The truck then exited the garage and collided head-on with a second patrol vehicle. Perez-Garcia emerged from the truck and began swinging a chain with a metal object attached to it in an aggressive and threatening manner, as stated in a news release by the agency.
The officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and disarm Perez-Garcia, but their efforts were unsuccessful. As Perez-Garcia continued to approach the officers while swinging the object, they were left with no choice but to shoot him, according to the DCI.
Perez-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
One officer sustained injuries when his patrol vehicle was struck by the truck and received medical treatment, as reported by Sioux City Police Chief Rex Mueller to the Sioux City Journal.
